Day 65

The Popular Idols Are Still Idols

” Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.” 1 John 5 verse 21

Im sure you have all heard of the recent finacial problems faced by Rangrs football club , thee have been some everyday average fans you have pledged £10 000 , £24 000 there was one elderly couple who said thet were eilling to give the club all of their collected life savings.
Personally I have no real interest in football and dont follow one team or another but the troubles of rangers and the fans reactions are really nothing more than modern day Idolatry.

I’m not trying to say that Chrisitans shoukdnt take part in sport or that they shouldnt follow one footbalk team or another but anything which takes over our lives and our time with God  well that is simply an Idol which needs to be removed.
Its our very nature to put anything in the way of God and in the way his reaching out to us. Idols can take any form – more than often the Idol can seem harmless or even beneficial to us , things like school , friends , boy/girl friend e.t.c
And in their own right these things can be amazing blessings on our lives but the very minute that these things gain more importance in our life than God has , then we must take a step back and  see what we are doing.
If youare reading this and you know that you have let others thing block your view of God and come inbetween you and th God that saved you
then you are commiting Idolatry its plain and simple.

If you are not a Christian then this is what you have been doing for all your life you have put everything in the wy of God. But God sent his son to die and take away all barriers from us and our God and to remove the idol of sin from our connection with God so that if we believe and love him he promises to listen and to love us.

If we are christians and we have let other gods ccome into our lives then it its essential that we must repent of them and bring them before our true God and saviour , if we leave it to fester then we will only drift further away.
But we know that our God who has died for us will not let us go on account of our own stupid sin and our own faults he will hold on to us until we do turn back to him and he will be there ready for us to take us back again.

” Man’s mind is like a store of idolatry and superstition; so much so that if a man believes his own mind it is certain that he will forsake God and forge some idol in his own brain.”
John Calvin
