Last Nights Sermon Notes

Psalm 118  Verses  19 – 24

19Open for me the gates of righteousness;I will enter and give thanks to the Lord.

20This is the gate of the Lord through which the righteous may enter.

21I will give you thanks, for you answered me;you have become my salvation.

22The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone;

23the Lord has done this,and it is marvelous in our eyes.

24This is the day the Lord has made;let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Point 1 – “The Gate Of The Lord”

  1. Broken Gate = Gate of sin
    – Born facing this gate/wide path and a wide gate/ not the gate which we are intended to enter / end is hell
  2. Rusty Gate = Looks good on outside (well painted) inside is again broken

-Attaining salvation through works : (a)bible reading / (b)prayer /(c)church attendance
*FIRST STRESS THAT ALL THESE THINGS ARE INCREDIBLE THINGS TO DO BUT NOT COUNT AS SALVATION *
Only after salvation can these things be true :
a–  Bible is real and vibrant this through the Spirit
b– Only Christians have true access to God through prayer  Christ’s intersession (non Christians can only pray”” for salvation) scrip. Back up
c– Only Christians can fully gain from being in the presence of fellow believers
3. True Gate = Offered only through Christ
-narrow path /narrow entrance
-Christians extended burdens and hardships ,but our extra helper
-How to enter this gate … only the righteous tie in to second point

Point 2 – “The Lords Doing”
-the rejection of Christ by the world and by God
– Only through Christ can we become righteous (quote psalm 24 )
-it is a worthy cause to celebrate it is indeed marvellous

Point 3 – “The Day The Lord Has Made”
-for Christians this should result in making use of every spare second of our time to serve Godand to witness
– for non Christians its a dire warning to repent before it is too late

{ Sum up and conc. }
